Celebrating The Big League 2024: Another year of Outdoor learning success!

This year marks the second annual competition of The Big League, and the creativity and inspiration from our member schools have been absolutely incredible! Launched in 2023, our goal was to challenge schools to increase their physical activity and enjoy the benefits of outdoor learning. This year’s competition has exceeded our expectations, and we couldn’t be prouder of our UK schools!

Generously sponsored by The British Schools Orienteering Association and our partners at British Orienteering, The Big League has once again proven to be a fantastic initiative. Our app, inspired by the sport of Orienteering, offers a versatile platform that encourages schools to engage in a wide range of activities—from Orienteering courses to outdoor Maths and History lessons.

Highlights of The Big League 2024

  • 853 sessions of Outdoor Learning were completed.

  • 948 pupils participated, accumulating over 315 hours of physical activity.

  • UK school children travelled a total of 966.93 km—almost reaching the 1000 km mark!

We saw remarkable efforts from both returning competitors and new participants. Hallsville Primary School, last year’s 3rd place finisher, stepped up their game and secured 2nd place this year. St. Ursula’s Catholic School, who narrowly missed the top 5 in 2023, travelled an impressive 60.74 km to earn 4th place this year.

And now, for the moment we've all been waiting for—our reigning champions:

  1. 1st Place - Springwell School

  2. 2nd Place - Hallsville Primary School

  3. 3rd Place - Callands Community Primary School

  4. 4th Place - St. Ursula’s Catholic School

  5. 5th Place - Broadford Primary School

We at The Outdoor Classroom are in awe of the dedication and enthusiasm shown by our member schools. A huge congratulations to every school that participated in this year’s competition.
